Have you ever wondered why some people can get so much done, while others have a to-do list a mile long (all the time)?
Over the last 2 weeks, I’ve been able to create massive amounts of content and get a ton of stuff done. During a time when everyone was “taking off”, I used this time to catch up and bang out lots of content. The best part is, I still got to spend time with my family, enjoy the holidays and even take a last minute trip out of town.

Here are some of the things I’ve recently started doing that’s allowed me to get even more work done in a shorter amount of time.

Use Inbox Pause. Install this extension on your Gmail and pause all incoming messages for a set amount of time. I have mine set to only retrieve new messages 4 times a day: 8am, 12pm, 4pm & 8pm. This eliminates me checking my email literally every 5 minutes (works on your phone too!)

Install Self Control App– this ingenious computer app for Mac allows you to add certain sites (ahem, Facebook) to a black list and set a timer for restricted access. You literally can’t log on, unless you go on your phone (more on this later)

Turn off or mute notifications. On my phone, I don’t get any notifications from any social media (you know that annoying red dot that screams “check me! check me!”. I only get notifications if I actually go into the app. Within the Facebook app, I have all notifications turned off from all the groups I am in (except the ones I run), so I don’t get notified whenever “so and so posts in x group”. I only get notifications if people tag me specifically or comment on one of my own posts.

Delete the Facebook app on your phone– easy but hard. Just do it and see what happens. You can always re-install it when you have downtime. I’ll check first thing in the morning just my notifications (not the newsfeed) and then delete the app until the end of the day.

Get out of town. Seriously. A change of scenery can do wonders for your creativity. I also tend to get a ton of work done on a plane (no distractions, no wifi). I did this just this past weekend and I got so much done: a list building mini course, re-engagment series for my mailing list, audio trainings for my Inner Circle, content training, Membership Site master class, new Social Challenges Cheat Sheet opt in, and so much more. This was my office for the weekend- not too shabby!

Shut out the world. I don’t know about you, but I LOVE my music. To me, it’s not distracting. It gets me in the zone. I get super productive and passionate about what I’m doing. I turn my headphones on, block out the rest of the world and work it.

Day Blocking. Instead of “time blocking” and filling your day with all kinds of tasks, what I’ve done for the past year and delegate certain days for creativity and others for coaching. Every Monday and Friday are my creative days- the days I spend creating new content, doing interviews, shooting videos, etc. Tuesday’s- Thursday’s I’m in coach mode- these are the only days I take client calls. This allows me to be “on” and in certain “modes” on those days instead of switching in and out between roles.

Hire Help. I have an AMAZING team that takes care of certain tasks for me. Silly things that I shouldn’t be doing anyway. They take care of the day to day activities of running my business, automating certain projects and keeping me on track. I was even recently able to hire an in- person assistant who takes care of all my errands for me, going to the post office, grocery shopping, making appointments, picking up my son from school and entertaining him so that I can squeeze in an extra hour of work before I spend the rest of the night with him. (She even wrapped my Christmas presents for me!)

Decide. This is probably my biggest tip. It’s your responsibility to make the decision to not get distracted, overwhelmed and triggered by unimportant things. When you focus on one thing at a time, you get be so much more productive than someone who maybe has more time than you, but is constantly being distracted. When you’re really focused and intentional about your activities, you become super productive.

I encourage you to start implementing even just a few of these suggestions and watch your productivity and creativity soar!
